According to the Dietary Supplement
Health and Education Act, the definition of dietary
supplement is:
- a food product intended to supplement one's
diet that contains any of these dietary ingredients: vitamin,
mineral, amino acid, herb or other botanical ingredient
- A supplemental dietary substance used to increase
total calory intake
- A concentrate, food metabolite, constituent or extract,
or any combination of supplemental ingredients
- A product to be consumed as part of one's diet in
the form of a capsule, gelcap, softgel or powder that is not advertised
as a conventional foodstuff and that is not meant to be a meal in and
of itself.
